چکیده

It is critical for advanced manufacturing machines to autonomously execute a task by following an end-user’s natural language (NL) instructions. However, NL instructions are usually ambiguous and abstract so that the machines may misunderstand and incorrectly execute the task. To address this NL-basedso that the machines may misunderstand and incorrectly execute the task. To address this NL-based human-machine communication problem and enable the machines to appropriately execute tasks by following the end-user’s NL instructions, we developed a Machine-Executable-Plan-Generation (exePlan) method. The exePlan method conducts task-centered semantic analysis to extract task-related information from ambiguous NL instructions. In addition, the method specifies machine execution parameters to generate a machine-executable plan by interpreting abstract NL instructions. To evaluate the exePlan method, an industrial robot Baxter was instructed by NL to perform three types of industrial tasks {“drill a hole”, “clean a spot”, “install a screw”}. The experiment results proved that the exePlan method was effective in generating machine-executable plans from the end-user’s NL instructions. Such a method has the promise to endow a machine with the ability of NL-instructed task execution.

Learning to Interpret Natural Language Navigation Instructions from Observation

The ability to understand natural-language instructions is critical to building intelligent agents that interact with humans. We present a system that learns to transform natural-language navigation instructions into executable formal plans. Given no prior linguistic knowledge, the system learns by simply observing how humans follow navigation instructions. The system is evaluated in three comp...

Understanding and Executing Instructions for Everyday Manipulation Tasks from the World Wide Web

Service robots will have to accomplish more and more complex, open-ended tasks and regularly acquire new skills. In this work, we propose a new approach to generating plans for such household robots. Instead composing them from atomic actions, we propose to transform task descriptions on web sites like ehow.com into executable robot plans. We present methods for automatically converting the ins...

Generating Executable Scenarios from Natural Language

Bridging the gap between the specification of software requirements and actual execution of the behavior of the specified system has been the target of much research in recent years. We have created a natural language interface, which, for a useful class of systems, yields the automatic production of executable code from structured requirements. In this paper we describe how our method uses sta...

Compiling dynamic agent conversations1

We consider defining executable dialogues for communicating agents. Towards this end, we introduce agent classes whose communication primitives are based on deduction. Their operational semantics are given by an abstract logical machine that is defined purely in sequential terms. These agents communicate under the control of plans requiring a synchronization flag. These plans can be rewritten a...

Formal Verification of a C Compiler Front-End

This paper presents the formal verification of a compiler front-end that translates a subset of the C language into the Cminor intermediate language. The semantics of the source and target languages as well as the translation between them have been written in the specification language of the Coq proof assistant. The proof of observational semantic equivalence between the source and generated c...
